Bhoj in Newa Civilization, Thambhal, Kirtipur

When talking about Nepali food specially Newari- its spicy, mouth watering and delicious.Food is the integral part of Newari culture. Different kind of foods are prepared for different occasions, considering the climate and nutritional needs for body. Newars are renowned for their sumptuous feasting.Dishes served during feasts and festivals have symbolic significance. Newari food tickles our taste bud.The rich Newari tradition and their eating culture have a proverbial standing in Nepal. “Pravatya bigryo Mojley, Newar bigryo Bhoj ley” meaning the non Newar communities ruin themselves by indulging themselves in recreation while Newars ruin by indulging in feast. Bhoj or the feast is an integral part of Newar community. Unlike in other communities where feast and gathering are more of personal choice and less of traditional deal, for Newari communities, it is a cultural need. Every ritual and festival of Newari people must be celebrated with “Bhoj”. So i headed to Newa Lahana which means Newari Civilization, a restaurant, typical Newari, I had my bhoj along with my friends on the occasion of Ghode Jatra. Eating bhoj on the special occasion with friends is something good which really gives sense of togetherness and friendship.Typical Newari Choila, spicy and hot The Newar Cuisine is a unique type of cuisine. Mustard oil and a host of spices, such as cumin, sesame seeds, turmeric, garlic, ginger, methi, bayleaves, cloves, cinnamon, pepper, chili, mustard seeds, vinegar, etc. are used in cooking. The cuisine served in the festivals is considered as the best diet cuisine. The grilled meat(preferrably water Buffalow meat) over the flames of dried wheat plants makes a delicious and spicy typical newari food called choila. In various occasions people from this tribe cook varieties of food depending on the climate and occasions. Newars use baji(beaten rice) in various occasions. A typical Newari serving consists of the beaten rice, choila, different beans, spiced potatoes, kachila (semi-cooked spiced minced meat) spinach, bara, bitter soups and typically two kinds of liquor. Thwon and aila are the common liquors that Newar make at home.To taste real newari cuisine with newari ambiance, you can go with your family, friends in this place. i love it. I can rate this place over all 7.5/10.
Happy Eating!!
